Clothing, Construction, and Design- Recycle and Redesign Project
The recycle and redesign project was designed to teach students the importance of using existing garments and a little inspiration to create a new apparel item. The class of 9 students was placed into three groups. We loaded a bus and went to our local Goodwill store with only a $15.00 budget per group. Each group was challenged to purchase clothing, accessories, or other apparel related items while staying within the assigned budget. After we returned back to school, the design process began. Each group completed a sketch and the final products. I will post group one's photos with this post. So continue to view the different posts to view the other two groups.

Welcome
This blog is designed to provide information, inspiration, and to showcase student projects. I am a Family and Consumer Sciences Teacher (FCS Teacher)and I teach four different levels of sewing at the secondary level. Teen Living, is a course designed for 9th and 10th grade students. It is similar to what used to be referred to as "Home Economics" class. It encompasses six different units, one of which is beginning sewing. Apparel I is also a beginning level sewing course. It is a step up from Teen Living. Apparel II is a course where students learn advanced sewing skills, textiles and design applications, as well as career opportunities. The course also has a component where we develop a "live" project. Basically, I teach the students how to start a small business with their sewing skills. Finally, the Clothing, Construction and Design Advanced Studies course is an advanced independent sewing course. I hope you enjoy visiting this blog to see what we are up to next. Happy Sewing!
